Every year I set out to write a review of the year. It’s
been a few years since I accomplished this, and I’m not gonna lie this year’s
almost didn’t happen. It wasn’t until my run this morning that my brain started
to comprehend that there was actually something worth writing about.
I have absolutely no idea how many miles I accumulated this year, and that’s
probably why I didn’t want to write this. It wasn’t until this morning that I
was able to remind myself that it’s not always about the numbers. I can say
that I managed to run in three races (Freeze Out 5k, Mountain Goat Run, and
AIDS Walk/Run) as well as a 40-mile Charity Bike Ride, but the absolute
highlight of my year was completing my very first Tough Mudder race. That was
most definitely an EPIC experience. I’m not going to rehash details from each
race or ride as I did that in recap posts that I made, so be sure to check
those out if you want. And instead of dwelling on what I didn’t like about
2018, I am just going to start looking ahead to 2019.
For 2019, one of my goals is to focus on being active ALL YEAR LONG. I have
come to realize (and accept) that I tend to teeter off with my activity about
midway through the year. No rhyme or reason, it just happens. Maybe it’s because
I haven’t been running any fall races, but none the less, I am looking to stay
active all year, and perhaps add some fall/early winter races to the mix.
I am already registered for a few years, and plan to add a new walk to the mix.
The races at this time are:
- 2/15/19 Freeze Out 5k to End Homelessness – benefits the Rescue Mission
- 3/9/19 Tipp Hill Shamrock Run (4 mile race)
- 3/23/19 American Heart Association 5k Walk – in honor of Brian Romeiser
- 5/5/19 Mountain Goat Run (10-mile)
- 6/2/19 AIDS Walk/Run 10k Run – benefits ACR Health
- June 2019 Ride & Run for the Rescue – 40 mile Bike Ride to benefit the Rescue Mission
I would most certainly like to add in another Tough Mudder
race, but want to check with my Running Buddies to make sure we have a team
once again, and I am also looking at the potential of running a Half Marathon
this year. It’s been a number of years since I have pushed my body to that
extreme…perhaps it is time to do it again???
