I’ve officially registered for my next race, and first race of 2015…read along for an inside look at what’s going on:
I can honestly say that I have been dragging my feet on registering for my first 5k of 2015 for many reasons:
- I haven’t ran since September 6th (half marathon)
- I question whether or not my plantar fasciitis has healed, or even enough for me to run well (without pain)
- It’s cold outside! Apparently all of my fall travel to warmer parts of the states has broken me in some ways that I am not looking forward to bundling up and going out there.
There is always a fear of some sort before I run a race. Whether it be, will I do well to my own standards? How is the weather going to be? (Running in the rain just sucks – but snow is worse!) And so many other thoughts that sometimes they are hard to capture and hold on to share them with you because it may be a passing doubt of some sort.
Well it’s getting cold here in CNY, and it’s going to be cold for MONTHS. That’s how CNY winters are – cold and brutal. We were fortunate enough to not get hit with the feet upon feet of snow that hit Buffalo, and I am thankful for that, but I also know that our turn will come so I am not about to jinx it by any means. While I was in Florida for work, and watching the weather reports of what was going on in WNY I kept finding my mind wandering to the homeless. Hoping and praying that they were all okay; that they found shelter where necessary and were safe. My thoughts were also with many family and friends in that area, but I still found myself thinking about the homeless no matter what. Perhaps it was running in the Freeze Out 5k last year, or the work that I have done (when able to) with The ROAD in Syracuse, or simply seeing the homeless standing on the street corners asking for work, money, or food.
To make an already long story, longer, I registered for the Freeze Out 5k this morning – not just for me and my need for a kick in the butt to get moving, but because, as I come to the end of 2014, and almost a full year of starting R4R, I am reminded of what Runnin’ 4 a Reason is for – to raise awareness for various causes. Last year so many of my friends and family supported me with the Freeze Out 5k, and I ask that you do this again. Every little bit helps – from $5 to $50, and anything in between (or even higher if you feel so inclined, but trust me it is not expected!) I ask that you please consider donating to this cause. The funds raised stay right here in Central New York and support The Rescue Mission.
Thank you all again for your support, and I look forward to a successful 2015. To donate to the Freeze Out 5k, please take a look at this link: http://rescuemission.donorpages.com/SyracuseFreezeOut5K2015/MonicaEverdyke2013/
