My training schedule called for two miles plus strength training tonight. I wanted to try to combine the two so opted for running hills. The upper middle photo is of one of the hills I made it up tonight. It was definitely as hard, if not harder, than expected, but at the same time I only got two and a half hill intervals in in that distance. Add in the snow that was like sand and it was a really interesting training run, but well worth it. It was only two miles, but there were still times that I wanted to stop – especially those uphill climbs – but what kept me going is the reason WHY I run, especially this time of year, and that’s because there are plenty of people who are unable to come out of the cold. I’m running in the Freeze Out 5k to End Homelessness that supports the Rescue Mission in Syracuse, NY.
During the 2016 fiscal year, the Rescue Mission provided 276,976 meals and 141,716 overnight stays. They also assisted with 386 employment placements. The services and support of the Rescue Mission are an essential part of the Central New York community.
No one should have to be hungry or homeless. It can happen for so many reasons and once there, it can be a difficult road back. Homeless shelters, not just the Rescue Mission, aren’t just about the shelter and food they provide, but they can also offer an ounce of dignity. People can enter shelters lacking hope, but may be fortunate to leave with a job and a place to live. Please know that your monetary donation goes further than just a warm bed. It can provide HOPE and the necessary stepping-stone to get life back on track.
Please consider making a donation – $5, $10, $15, $20 – whatever feels right – and not only provide shelter for those in need, but also HOPE.
Pair your prayers with action. Donate. Pay it Forward. Be the reason someone you’ll never meet is warm and safe!
