Mental Preparation is Key

Just two days away from the 40th annual Mountain Goat Race and I’m getting ready to go pick up my packet for the race. I’m excited and nervous as always. I’ve been close through the years of breaking the 90-minute mark and I would love to this year, but as usual I feel unprepared, but at the same time I know I AM PREPARED.
It’s weird really because I know that I have logged more miles and long runs than in the past, but then I start to question whether or not I am REALLY prepared. I got sick for two weeks during training and that definitely set me back, but I still feel like I am in a better spot than I have been since I started this race heading in. One factor that has always been most important has been the mental preparation. All the years where I’ve really struggled physically being prepared for the race I’ve been able to mentally prepare myself through the climbs and that has helped me succeed. This year I’m more physically prepared and perhaps now my mental side is lacking? Tough to say.
I know I’m just rambling here…and maybe it’s pre-race jitters, but whatever it is when the gun goes off Sunday morning the adrenaline rush will help get me started and then it’s just one step at a time after that!
